Invasive Plants

Invasive plants can destroy a lake. There are many lakes throughout the state that are in trouble. We want you to be aware of the fact that Lake Helen is no longer exempt from the problem. Plants that are detrimental to the health of the lake have entered our beautiful waters. We need everyone's help to get a handle on this problem and to stop the spreading.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR EURASIAN MILFOIL IN OUR LAKE. LEARN HOW TO IDENTIFY THIS WEED.

Highly invasive plants that are able to form dense mats near the surface of the water.
If they are cut up by a boat motor, they spread quickly.

• Delicate feather-like leaves. Leaflets are mainly the same length.
• The leaves are usually limp when out of the water.
• Leaves arranged in circles of 3-5 around the stem.
• Usually 12-21 leaflet pairs per leaf.
• Long spaghetti-like stems.
